Searching for the Self : Adult International Adoptees’ Narratives of Their Search for and Reunion With Their Birth Families

In this case study, five international adoptees from Finland were interviewed about their search and reunion experiences to find out what meanings they ascribed to their identities and family relations. The thematic analysis yielded three themes: search and reunion in significant periods of life, meaning of reunion for identity, and belonging and relatedness within family. The first theme was characterized by the changing interest in birth family from the inability in childhood to fully understand the meaning of adoption and the growing interest in adolescence to adulthood where participants’ own parenthood intensified their interest. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella kotimaisen adoption muutosta ja kehitystä historiallisessa kontekstissaan ja kuvata mitä kohti kotimaisissa adoptioissa ol-laan menossa. Näkökulmana historiallisessa tarkastelussa on adoptoidun ja biologisen van-hemman välinen yhteydenpito. Adoptoidun ja biologisen vanhemman välinen yhteydenpito on 1.7.2012 voimaan astuneen uuden adoptiolain mahdollistaman avoimen adoption sisältö. Tutkimus on kvalitatiivinen. Fear of Childbirth, Self-Esteem and Birth Experiences: Pregnancy and Postpartum

This dataset contains all three phases of data collection from the survey study Fear of Childbirth, Birth Experiences, Self-Esteem and Parental Burnout. The data contains answers from participants (n=125) in late pregnancy (30+ weeks in gestation) and postpartum (4-8 weeks after childbirth and 1 year after childbirth). The data is collected in 2020-2021 from four Finnish cities. Participants have completed background information (in pregnancy), fear of childbirth scale (W-DEQ, all three time points), Rosenberg self-esteem scale (all three time points), and Delivery Satisfaction scale (only 4-8 weeks postpartum).
